In Fiji, a physical fight - which both parties might consider as something the instigator deserves - might not be understood in the same way in Europe. If the person with whom you had an argument or fight decides to press charges, you can expect an interview by the police.

Insist on an interpreter; if the police ask you many complicated questions you might end up saying things, under pressure, that did not actually happen.

Your statement might be taped. Insist on getting a written copy and check that this statement is what you really wanted to say. If you need to add things to your statement that you might have left out due to pressure and fear you should request to have them included.

Insist on a lawyer being with you at the interview with the police. It is best not to give a statement without a lawyer.
